Is a thermoplastic polyolefin or TPO single-ply membrane the right choice for your upcoming roofing project?
TPO is manufactured in sheets made up with a blend of ethylene propylene polymers and popropylene. This process does not require the use of plasticizers or chlorine.
TPO roofing membranes are quickly becoming one of the most widely used roofing products in the industry and for a number of reasons:
They offer excellent seam strength coupled with resistance to:
Add to that:
Most environmentally friendly single ply system on the market
UV resistant which reduces the heat island over your building which can lower cooling bills
It's lightweight and manufactured in wide sheets so it is easy to install.
Less expensive than other singly-ply roofing systems
TPO is applied in large rolls of varying size and thickness. It can be attached with a variety of methods including: mechanically fastened, fully adhered or wind ballasted. The seams of the membrane are hot air-welded together to form a strong waterproof seam.
Although TPO has many great benefits, it does not have the long term proven track record that other single-ply roof systems have. It is important to discuss all of your concerns and roofing needs with your specialist so you can work together to decide what system is the best fit for your building.
